Try a new breakfast menu over the holidays when your family members are home for Christmas!

Monday – whole grain, high fiber cereal with diced bananas and low-fat milk

Tuesday – a bagel with hummus or peanut butter and a piece of fresh fruit

Wednesday – a breakfast smoothie and hearty whole grain muffin

Thursday – old fashioned oats with dried fruit and sliced almonds and low-fat milk

Friday – a breakfast burrito with turkey sausage, diced peppers and tomatoes, shredded low-fat cheese and salsa with 100% mango juice

Saturday – combine low-fat yogurt with fruit and cereal

Sunday – frozen whole grain waffle, toasted and topped with low-fat ricotta cheese and sliced strawberries

Coffee Banana Smoothie

2 small bananas, peeled, cut up, and frozen

1-1/2 cups skim milk

1 8-ounce container nonfat coffee yogurt

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Dash ground nutmeg

Banana slices (optional)

Fresh mint (optional)

In a blender container combine frozen bananas, milk, yogurt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Cover and blend till smooth. To serve, pour into glasses.

If desired, garnish with fresh banana slices and mint.

Morning Sunrise Smoothie

1 banana, peeled and sliced

1/2 cup of strawberries

1/2 cup of orange juice

A handful of ice cubes

Place all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.

Bran Banana Bars

1 cup white wheat flour

¼ cup brown sugar

½ teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

¼ teaspoon salt

1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon

1 cup bran flakes or raisin bran flakes, crushed

1 cup low-fat milk

2 eggs

1 carrot, shredded

1 ripe banana, mashed

1/3 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Use non-stick spray to coat 8 ½ inch x 8 ½ inch baking pan.

In medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and cereal. Mix well.

In a small bowl, combine milk, eggs, carrot, banana, and walnuts. Add to dry ingredients. Bake for 25-35 minutes or until brown on top. Cut into 12 bars.
