Parent's Don't Find Calorie Counting a Useful Tool

Those of you working with parents and caregivers to improve the nutritional quality of meals to prevent obesity, may be interested in this research by the Dietary Guidelines Alliance.

A survey found that 14% of parents said they pay attention to their family's calorie consumption and most think serving nutrient-rich foods would affect the healthfulness of their family's diet more than watching calories.

Balancing eating and physical activity also ranked highly among parents' ideas for ways to improve family health, the research showed.

Your Stomach Really Does Have A Mind of It's Own


Thank you Linda from New York for submitting this delicious recipe for our recipe contest.

Ingredients and Instructions:

1 1/2 cups of Lentils

4 cups of Chicken Stock or Vegetable Stock

1/4 cup of Olive Oil

1 large yellow Onion, chopped

3 cloves Garlic

2 large Yams

2 handfuls of baby spinich



Salt and Pepper

Saute' onion in oil for 2 minutes, add garlic, cleaned lentils, cut up yams and let simmer for 10 minutes. Add the stock, parsley, 1/2 tsp of thyme, salt and pepper and spinich. Cook in stock pot for 1/2 hour.
